Bereavement leave for abortion
A few months ago a social media account I follow put out a poll asking about legislation passed in New Zealand giving mothers and their partners bereavement leave after a miscarriage or stillbirth. Many responded on how wonderful that was because the loss of a baby during pregnancy or birth is the loss of someone close to you and many mothers and their partners grieve the loss of their child.
This is a good thing, right?
I immediately thought worse case scenrio and how this legislation would be abused. And thought about how many would claim a miscarriage when they chose to have an abortion?
Well, Portland has become the first city in the United States to offer similar legislation for bereavement to mothers who experience a miscarriage, stillbirth of their child, or have an abortion.
Bereavement: the period of grief and mourning after a death.
Who died?
The baby, obviously. This new legislation in Portland is clear in its language and it is not denying that a baby, someone who s indeed a person dies in an abortion.
Who killed the baby?
The abortionist did and the mother chose to kill her baby.
So, why is this acceptable?
It’s acceptable because those who are profusely pro-choice are fully aware of the scientific facts that a baby in the womb is in fact, a baby. Yet, how they define whether a baby is worthy of life or not is what situation that baby’s mother is in during her pregnancy.
This is where the mission of Options United comes into play. We market to women in situations where abortion is deemed acceptable in their current situations. Our call responders are crisis trained so that when a mother calls in they are able to calmly handle her situation.
We know that there is never a situation in which a baby deserves death.
Yet, that is not what the abortion industry pushes. When anyone is facing a crisis situation they often look for the easiest way out of that situation. And the easiest way is not always the best way. It may solve the issue short term but the long term effects are lasting and damaging.
Options United hopes to put a mother’s snap decision to have an abortion to the side and help them evaluate their situation with a calm and sensible perspective. When facing a difficult situation it can seem impossible to find a solution but we hope that Options United will be that glimmer of hope for these women in crisis situations.
